Grunge-rock Ty Segall will play at 9 p.m. tonight at One Eyed Jack’s. The band just released its newest album “Emotional Mugger” in January.

The crowds at One Eyed Jacks will bare witness to the grunge-rock spectacle that is Ty Segall at 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Backed by his band, the Muggers, and supported by CFM and New Orleans band Bottomfeeders, Segall will grace the popular French Quarter venue as part of his tour to support his new album, “Emotional Mugger,” released this past January.

Segall is no stranger to New Orleans, having performed at One Eyed Jacks on several previous occasions.  But the Muggers are a new and different animal, assembled for the purpose of recreating the gritty, riff-based sounds of “Emotional Mugger.”  The band features Kyle Thomas, better known as King Tuff, on guitar, and two members of Wand on keyboards and drums.

“Emotional Mugger” in itself has been regarded as a bit different from Segall’s previous work. Segall’s trademark fuzzy guitar riffs are there, but the synths are heavier and more grating. The songs are lyrically tied together by a recurring theme of “candy.”  Concert goers should expect to hear quite a few of these songs, including “Candy Sam,” which Segall recently performed on The Late Show.
