Dummies’ Guide: Tulane Football vs. UConn

1. Tulane Football (2-6, 1-4 American Athletic Conference) will take on Connecticut (4-5, 2-3 AAC) this weekend. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNews.

2.Saturday marks Homecoming for Tulane. The Wave lost to the Memphis Tigers at last year’s Homecoming 38-7.

3. Head coach Curtis Johnson is undefeated against UConn while coaching the Green Wave. Tulane holds a 1-0 lead in the series.

4. The Huskies are the first team the Wave has faced in over a month that has not been ranked or received votes. Tulane defeated Central Florida 45-31 on Oct. 3.

5. The combined record of Tulane’s previous four opponents is 29-2. The combined record of Tulane’s final four opponents is 11-22.

6. The Wave remain in contention for a bowl game this season. Tulane must win all of its remaining four games in order to become bowl eligible.

7. Tulane’s offense ranks No. 25 in the nation in red zone offense. The Wave has scored 16 out of 18 trips to the red zone.

8. The struggle for the Wave has been getting to the red zone in the first place. Tulane has the fewest trips to the red zone than any other team ranked in the top 50 for red zone efficiency. The average number of trips for teams in the top 25 is 30.

9. The Wave’s offense has no room for mistakes, as the Huskies’ defense is No. 7 in the country in turnovers gained and No. 3 in the country in interceptions.

10. Tulane quarterbacks have thrown six interceptions through the first eight games of the season. Through the first eight games last year, Wave quarterbacks had thrown 12 interceptions.
