Preview: Ten Points: Tulane vs. Memphis

1. Memphis, currently ranks No. 1 in the American Athletic Conference standings and has won three straight games coming into the match. Its losses this season have come against No. 11 UCLA, No. 12 Ole Miss and Houston, the team Tulane beat last Saturday.

2. The Tigers are the only team ranked in the top three in the AAC for both scoring offense and defense, scoring 34.0 points per game while giving up an average of 18.7 points.

3. The Green Wave trail Memphis in team statistics including scoring offense, scoring defense, rushing offense, rushing defense, passing offense, passing defense, third down conversions and opponent third down conversions.

4. Tulane is the only team in the conference with a better turnover margin or better red zone defense than Memphis. The Wave have forced 7 more turnovers than it has given up and allows opponents to score on 65.0 percent of red zone opportunities.

5. Memphis has scored on 93 percent of its red zone drives, coming away with points on all but 3 of its 40 tries.

6. Over the Tigers’ current win streak, Memphis senior running back Brandon Hayes has run for 373 yards with 5 touchdowns, accounting for over 60 percent of his season’s rush total in the past 3 games alone.

7. Tulane freshman running back Dontrell Hilliard has 208 rushing yards on 36 carries over the past two weeks after gaining 131 yards on 33 carries in the first seven games of the year. Hilliard also added 105 receiving yards in the win against Houston last Saturday.

8. The Wave average 161 rushing yards per game, however Tulane has never won when a player runs for over 85 yards.

9. The Tigers have scored 35 or more points in 6 games this year. Tulane has reached 35 points once, in its win against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 13.

10.  Tulane is tied No. 7 in the country in turnovers forced with 25. Under coach Curtis Johnson, the Wave has forced 84 turnovers in 34 games and forced at least one turnover in all but one game.

Prediction: 27-17 Memphis
