Changes to move-in day procedures affect parking

The Department of Housing and Residence Life has changed the move-in procedure by scheduling freshman move-in day for Friday. In the past, freshman move-in has occurred on a Saturday.

There are new challenges associated with holding move-in on a weekday. Parking is the primary concern for Tulane University Police Department and the Division of Student Affairs.

“We are asking faculty and staff to get creative with how they are going to get to campus,” Vice President for Student Affairs Dusty Porter said.

On-campus parking is limited to the St. Charles Avenue side of Freret Street for faculty and staff as all surface-level parking, the Rosen Parking Lot and the Collins C. Diboll Complex will be reserved for new students and families from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.

Faculty and staff with on-campus parking permits will be allowed to park in Garage 5 of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Friday. Shuttle buses will transport Tulane affiliates to and from campus.

Porter said he supports holding move-in day during the week because it gives the families a view of what a normal Tulane day is like.

“We will have folks around staffing buildings, offices and other facilities,” Porter said.

Porter said he looks forward to meeting incoming Tulanians on Friday.

“I’ll be around welcoming students and families to our community,” Porter said.
