On Sept. 10 at 10:36 p.m., Tulane University Police Department was alerted to a fraudulent email scam sent to the reporting victim’s Tulane University email. The subjects instructed the Tulane affiliate to purchase gift cards for a charitable organization for orphaned children while she was in Los Angeles. The victim purchased $11,425 worth of cards but was not reimbursed. TUPD referred the victim to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.
On Sept. 12 at 5:10 p.m., TUPD responded to an attempted auto burglary. The reporting person told officers that her neighbor witnessed a white Kia SUV pull alongside the reporting person’s vehicle and saw unknown subjects attempt noninvasive entry into the vehicle by pulling on the door handles. No description was given of the subjects. TUPD notified the New Orleans Police Department.
On Sept. 13 at 3:26 a.m., TUPD officers were alerted to an unresponsive male at the Tulane University Medical Center valet area. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and declared the male deceased at 3:45 a.m. The subject’s identity and cause of death were not released. The matter was turned over to NOPD.
On Sept. 13 at 8:52 a.m., TUPD responded to an aggravated assault. The alleged assailant wielded a realistic-looking BB gun at two victims, who are not affiliated with Tulane, and made threatening remarks. NOPD placed the assailant under arrest.
