The report alleged that Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity intended to haze pledges later that evening. According to TUPD, officers met with members of the fraternity who said they understood the consequences of hazing and that no hazing would occur. In Louisiana, hazing is a felony with a potential five-year prison sentence and $10,000 fine. In the United States, a hazing death has occurred every year since 1959, with the exception of 2020.
