New Orleans trash pickup will remain on a once-a-week schedule, charging the same $24 monthly fee residents paid for twice-a-week pickups before Hurricane Ida last fall.

After Hurricane Ida slammed New Orleans last year, the city faced a trash crisis. Bags and debris laid on the streets for weeks.

City officials said this summer the once-a-week schedule was temporary. However, in a series of community meetings in August, New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell said that schedule will continue.

There will be no refunds and the fee will remain in place to cover the cost of new waste contractors, Cantrell said.
