Weekend crime includes shooting, vehicle burglaries Uptown

Last weekend, several incidents of crime, including an armed robbery, vehicle burglaries and a shooting early Saturday, occurred Uptown. 

On Sept. 24 around 2:30 a.m., a shooting at the intersection of South Carrollton Avenue and Willow Street left one dead and two wounded. The three victims were in the same car. Two men were sent to a local hospital and one 21-year-old man, Daimeion Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victims’ conditions have not been released. Police said the gunman pulled up to the car in a sedan, fired his gun and sped away. New Orleans Police are still determining a suspect and motive. 

On Friday at 10:44 p.m, Tulane University Police Department responded to a report of purse snatching at Magazine and Webster Streets. Students reported that the suspect exited a white sedan at approximately 10 p.m. and stole the purse from one student’s shoulder while the students were waiting for their rideshare. The purse contained wallets of the three victims. No injuries were reported. 

On Sept. 24 at 12:16 a.m., TUPD responded to a report of an armed robbery at Freret Street and Jefferson Avenue. Students reported that a female suspect exited a vehicle at approximately 10 p.m. and pointed a firearm at the victims, demanding their wallets. One student left his wallet and the victims fled on foot, according to a TUPD report. No injuries were reported.  

On Sept. 25 at 4:16 p.m., TUPD responded to a report of vehicle burglaries in the Claiborne Avenue parking lot. The windows of 12 vehicles were smashed and four victims reported firearms stolen, according to the report. No other items were reported stolen. Witnesses reported an unknown Black male suspect in a red SUV broke a truck window and fled the scene. TUPD obtained camera footage of the lot and observed a burgundy/red SUV enter the parking lot, according to the report. An investigation is ongoing.
