Delta Tau Delta was suspended by the University for a hazing incident that occurred in March.

A months-long investigation by the Tulane University Office of Student Conduct into Delta Tau Delta has concluded, finding the fraternity responsible for hazing and disorderly conduct.

Tulane began an investigation into the fraternity on March 28, following an incident the day before. It is unclear what the incident entailed and which members were involved. 

Tulane’s hazing policy prohibits “acts of servitude and/or behavior that humiliates, degrades, embarrasses, harasses, or ridicules an individual, or otherwise is harmful or potentially harmful to an individual’s physical, emotional, or psychological well-being.”

As a result of the investigation, Delta Tau Delta is suspended for the fall semester.

During this suspension, the fraternity will have to complete “specific educational requirements and stay in good standing,” according to Tulane spokesperson Mike Strecker. If the fraternity fails to complete the education requirements, it will face additional penalties, including suspension for the spring 2026 semester. 

While suspended, the chapter cannot host events with university resources or engage in recruitment.

Phi Kappa Sigma was placed under interim suspension around the same time as Delta Tau Delta last year. The investigation is still ongoing. 

“We are committed to preventing hazing and addressing any allegations of hazing behavior that occur on our campus quickly and thoroughly,” Strecker said.

Louisiana has some of the strictest anti-hazing laws in the country, with criminal hazing potentially resulting in up to five years in prison. 

Despite these laws, hazing persists in Louisiana. Between 2018 and February 2025, 43 hazing incidents were reported in the state. In February, Caleb Wilson, a pledge of Omega Psi Phi at Southern University, died after being punched repeatedly as part of a hazing ritual in a warehouse in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Delta Tau Delta did not respond to a request for comment.
