On the eve of Tulane University’s week of Halloween celebrations, I’m here to be the fairy godmother you need to pull together the best last-minute costume ideas. The most dedicated Halloween enthusiasts will go out every night, so you may need more outfits than you think.  

Follow along for seven costumes — one for each day of the week — that will help you stand out as a fun and festive little treat.  

1. Tulane Frat Guy 

For a more casual, funny option, go as a stereotypical Tulane frat guy. A frat guy outfit always gets laughs, and you can easily build this costume with an oversized T-shirt, shorts, a backwards hat and sunglasses. Add a shirt with a frat’s name for bonus points. 
 

2. Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf 

The iconic queens of the Upper East Side from the show “Gossip Girl” make for a chic and effortless duo costume. Known for their timeless style, Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf serve as perfect inspiration for a costume. For Serena, wear a plaid skirt, white top and tie with glam makeup. For Blair, go preppy with a headband and a posh dress. Accessories are a girl’s best friend for this look — be the queens of Uptown for a night with this iconic pairing. 

3. Fancy Nancy 

 This nostalgic costume can be built entirely from a Tulanian’s eclectic closet — Mardi Gras accessories, chunky jewelry, funky sunglasses and pink everything. Curl your hair, throw on a boa or faux feathers, layer jewelry and finish the look with long socks and heels. Essentially, it’s a grown-up version of dress-up. Don’t forget colorful makeup — the more sparkle, the better when it comes to a “Fancy Nancy”-inspired costume.
 

4. Magic Mike 

Magic Mike is a simple yet clever Halloween costume that works solo or as a group. It simply requires a white top, tie, jeans, a backwards cap and sunglasses. This is an easy, cool look that can be crafted entirely from closet staples. 

5. Black cat 

A black dress and some cat ears are all you need to pull off this sleek look. Add black boots and gloves for some extra flair, or a moon on your cheek or gold glitter accents along your collarbone for a celestial touch. To make this a duo costume, partner with a witch — another all-black or purple outfit with a pointy hat — and you’ve got yourself a miraculous midnight magic look.  

6. Angel and Devil Duo 

This duo costume is a simple yet timeless one. Wear white and add face gemstones and silver or white highlighter for the angel, and sharp eyeliner and a classic red lip for the devil. Add wings and a halo or a tail and horns to complete the look. You can also lean into your creative side by painting halos or horns on your cheeks and accentuating the look further with gold or red glitter.  

7. Princess 

 As classic as it gets, any pretty pink dress and a tiara will transform you into a princess for the night. Luckily, there are endless variations for you to customize your character: add peachy makeup and gloves for Princess Peach, a yellow dress and a book or rose as a prop for Belle or a purple top, green skirt and red braid for Ariel. As long as you have one essential item — a tiara — you’re set with this last-minute costume idea.  

So, before you panic about what to wear and deem your closet full of clothes with nothing to wear, take another peek with a fresh lens. With these ideas guiding you, odds are the perfect costume is already waiting for you — all it takes is a little creativity.
