Transitioning from pop-ups to a permanent location out of the kitchen at Milan Lounge, Get Your Mom & Dim Sum is serving up dumplings and more into late hours of the night.
Located next to Touro Infirmary, this small venue has some bar seats and booths to get comfortable in. It’s a cozy space with a warm mood and fun decor. We sat at a booth after ordering our food — which you must do at the bar — and everything came out quickly.
For dumplings, we got the crab Rangoon filled with a crab cream cheese mixture with scallion served with sweet and sour sauce, which came with five for $12. These were deep fried to a perfectly crispy exterior with a warm crab-filled center. The cream cheese mixture was balanced with a generous serving of crab, unlike Rangoons I’ve had at other places. The sauce was great as well, with a stronger sour flavor than other sweet and sour sauces. The pairing was great to cut through the rich crab and cream cheese combo.
We also got shrimp and charred scallion noodles with Szechuan spiced ground shrimp, fermented black beans and tomato confit for $18. This was a unique noodle dish, with the ground shrimp mixing nicely with the flavor of fermented beans. The sauce was

smooth and creamy, with unexpected bursts of tomato.
The last thing we got was the orange chicken, which comes with deboned leg quarters and fried rice for $21. This dish was huge and could easily feed two people. There was at least half of a chicken on the plate, which was deep fried and covered in a yummy orange sauce.
We didn’t get drinks, but the options were extensive and affordable. They had many beer options in cans, bottles and drafts as well as the usual well drinks.
Just a few blocks from St. Charles Avenue, Get Your Mom & Dim Sum is an easy streetcar ride from campus. If you’re looking for a spot to grab a nicer late-night bite than your usual bar food while still getting drinks with friends, I couldn’t think of a better spot.
