Three capybaras at Audubon Zoo are adding weather forecasters to their resumes. The three young animals, named Tiana, Charlotte and Lewis after Disney’s “Princess and the Frog” characters, were tasked to make an important prediction: Will spring come early this year?
To decide, they chose between gumbo, for six more weeks of winter, and snoballs, for an early spring. After careful deliberation, the capybaras unanimously decided on snoballs, meaning warmer spring weather is right around the corner.
Tiana, Charlotte and Lewis are following in their parents’ footsteps, who made the weather prediction last year. At Audubon, the capybaras can be found in the Jaguar Jungle River’s Edge along with their parents, and soon with their five baby siblings.
Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter today, much to the dismay of New Orleans residents who have been dealing with an arctic surge for the past week. Punxsutawney Phil is only accurate about 35% of the time.
Last year’s capybaras at Audubon, Turkey and Sequoyah, predicted six more weeks of winter after the record-breaking snowstorm in January.
