The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has ended a precautionary boil water advisory for Uptown New Orleans. The advisory was put in place after a water main burst on Panola Street, causing water pressures to fall below 20 pounds per square inch.
The water main break trapped a car in a sinkhole and flooded surrounding streets for several hours.
When water pressure drops below 20 PSI, groundwater can leak through cracks in pipes, potentially contaminating the water supply.
Residents should run water for several minutes to flush their systems before consuming any. Water pressure may still be below normal for several days while crews work to restore the transmission main.
