The Sewerage and Water Board issued a boil water advisory to most of New Orleans’ east bank on Monday morning following a large water main break near S. Claiborne Avenue and Panola Street.
Tulane University sent out an alert stating that both Uptown and Downtown campuses are affected by the advisory, until further notice.
The water main break caused over two feet of water to flood the surrounding streets and water pressure across the city to drop. City officials advised people to avoid areas bound by South Carrollton Avenue, Burdette Street, South Claiborne Avenue and Hickory Street, where there is an active public safety incident.
This is the third boil water advisory of the year. SWB issued an advisory on Feb. 1 after a sinkhole burst on Panola Street. The last advisory was issued on Feb. 23 after another water main break in Central City, which affected all of Uptown.
The SWB recommends using bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and mixing baby formula.
Tuesday, March 10 at 9:41 a.m.: Tulane sent an alert saying New Orleans officials have issued an All Clear on the advisory.
