Tulane University has sanctioned five fraternities for noise violations that occurred during Mardi Gras weekend, according to Tulane spokesperson Michael Strecker.
Zeta Beta Tau has been issued a social event restriction for a noise violation, meaning the fraternity is not allowed to host events at its chapter house, located at 1006 Broadway Street, for the rest of the semester.
Fraternities Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Alpha, Phi Gamma Delta and Zeta Psi have been sanctioned to community clean-up and improvement activities for their noise violations.
The conduct case against Alpha Epsilon Pi for noise violations is pending.
“Tulane University respects and highly values the importance and uniqueness of every New Orleans neighborhood,” Strecker said. “We strive every day to be the best neighbors we can be and hold all our students accountable for doing the same.”
Noise complaints involving fraternities fall under Tulane’s Code of Student Conduct, which restricts students from compromising university-community relations by violating local noise ordinances at a student residence or affiliated organization house.
New Orleans noise ordinance laws prohibit amplified noise between 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and between 10:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Kappa Sigma and Sigma Chi fraternities faced disciplinary action earlier this semester. Sigma Chi was barred from hosting events at its chapter house for the semester after hosting an unregistered event in fall 2025.

You gotta be a really special kind of person to call in a noise complaint during Mardi Gras. Disappointing to hear. No pun intended.
