Tulane University’s women’s tennis wrapped up a series of competitive road trips with a trio of narrow losses, starting with their loss to Florida International University women’s tennis on April 2, Florida Atlantic University Women’s Tennis on April 4 and Southern Mississippi University women’s tennis on April 7. Each game was decided by just one or two points.
At FIU in Miami, both teams waited out weather delays before falling 4-2. The match also marked a milestone 200th career win for the Panthers’ head coach, Katarina Petrovic.
After dropping the doubles points in a tightly contested tiebreak on court three, Tulane responded in singles with wins from Micah Pierce and Natalia Fantini. Fantini extended her winning streak to nine matches.
At FAU, Tulane narrowly lost the game in Boca Raton but fell short in their 4-3 loss.
After surrendering the doubles point, the Tulane Green Wave rallied behind singles wins from Campbell Ricci, Summer Chandler and Natalia Fantini to tie the match at 3-3. The deciding match came down to court five, where FAU’S Alexia Patru edged Pierce in a third-set tiebreak 7-0, sealing the match in a nail-biting fashion.
Yesterday, in Hattiesburg, at Southern Miss, Tulane suffered yet another narrow defeat, falling 4-3.
Despite dropping the doubles point, Tulane sprang ahead with three straight singles victories from our all-stars Pierce, Ricci and then from Diana Badalyan.
However, Southern Miss wasn’t ready to throw in the towel and answer the call by winning the final three matches, clinching the dual at No. 2 in a three-set feud. The win capped an emotional home of the Golden Eagles, who celebrated senior day and honored their senior Angelina Blinova.
Looking ahead, Tulane’s women’s tennis team plans to take the court against Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, on April 11.
