The Tulane Hullabaloo is nothing without its dedicated staff. The Hullabaloo class of 2026 didn’t just contribute to this organization — they transformed it. From reimagining recruitment and onboarding to driving exponential growth in our social media presence, their impact will be felt long after they accept their diplomas.
Behind these accomplishments are individuals whose dedication and leadership deserve recognition in their own right.
Ian Faul
Staff Writer, Arcade Editor, Editor-in-Chief
Joined: Fall 2022
Hometown: New Orleans, LA
“The Hullabaloo has been my home on campus for the last four years,” Faul said. “I’ve even slept in the office a few times.”
As the guiding force of The Hullabaloo for the past two years, Faul has transformed the paper — reshaping its staff, overhauling outdated systems, and expanding its reach across campus.
“We’ve grown in number — with the addition of a new section and the expansion of our team of contributors — but also in reach,” he said. “More people than ever are reading our stories: I know it when I look at our audience engagement metrics, and when I overhear people around campus saying that ‘they read it in The Hullabaloo.’”
As much as Faul has left a lasting mark on The Hullabaloo, it has also left a mark on him.
“The Hullabaloo has shaped me in turn by making me a more critical reader, a more versatile writer, and a more confident leader,” he said. “Most importantly … it has opened up new pathways of curiosity for me. How old are the oak trees on the quad? What’s going on in that lab? When you write for the paper, suddenly, everything around you becomes a little more interesting.”
What’s next: Faul will be working as a contributing writer for the health section of The Advocate as he prepares to apply to medical school.
Ellie Cowen
Staff Writer, News Editor, Managing Editor
Joined: Fall 2022

“Deciding to join The Hullabaloo was the single best decision I have made at Tulane,” Cowen said. “It has made me a stronger writer, a better leader, a more thoughtful person and given me the most special community of friends.”
When thinking about the mark she has left on The Hullabaloo, Cowen is proud of creating a stronger sense of community by advocating for all section meetings to be in person and creating a new training program for incoming writers.
“My freshman year, the work was all asynchronous, and I met my news editor only once or twice the whole year,” she said. “[Now,] The Hullabaloo is a stronger community and has fostered the talent of more young writers. I am so happy the staff writers now get to experience the exciting, inclusive community I wished for.”
Cowen believes she will draw on her Hullabaloo experience even after her time at Tulane University has ended.
“The work we each do applies directly to so many careers,” she said. “I know I’ll be drawing on the skills I learned here for the rest of my professional life.”
What’s next: Cowen will be moving home to the Washington, D.C. area to apply for jobs before graduate school.

Beyond providing her with professional skills, Hearon credits The Hullabaloo with connecting her to a meaningful community.
“The Hullabaloo has introduced me to some of the most amazing people Tulane has to offer, and I’m so grateful my time at The Hullabaloo coincided with theirs,” she said.
What’s next: Hearon will be attending law school in the fall, pursuing art restitution and cultural heritage law.
Lila Mago

“I was able to discover my love for digital media strategy and working in a fast-paced newsroom, which is what I plan to pursue full-time after graduating,” Mago said.
Mago also credits The Hullabaloo for developing her leadership skills, as she managed a team of nine to grow the paper’s newsletter, social media content and podcast.
“When I joined as a social media editor, our feed was very sporadic and disorganized … we had about 2-3k followers,” she said. “Through developing a brand style guide, post templates, post scheduling and leading an expansion of our team to multimedia content through reels and podcast, The Hullabaloo has reached a wider audience than we ever have before.”
The Hullabaloo now has almost 12,000 followers on Instagram.
“My mission when joining as a sophomore was to platform the amazing, hard work of our writers and make sure we are engaging with our community,” she said. “I’m happy leaving as a senior knowing I did just that.”
What’s next: Mago is planning to pursue journalism and media strategy full-time as a rapid response associate in Washington, D.C.

“I have learned from my time at The Hullabaloo that being in a group of enthusiastic, driven people motivates me to do quality work, and it will be something I look for post-college,” O’Connor said.
O’Connor took on the senior business manager role during a stage of growth for The Hullabaloo, in which she expanded the business team from two to nine members, maintained traditional print media while expanding digital avenues and increased revenue streams.
“I was able to implement a change in the revenue model by creating structured advertising contracts,” she said. “Focusing on the business side of The Hullabaloo allowed me to interact with clients in the local New Orleans community and on campus to engage even more people with the organization.”
O’Connor emphasized that she is grateful for the strong guidance and support she received in expanding The Hullabaloo’s business side, particularly from Tel Bailliet, assistant director of student media at Tulane, and Jeanne Exnicios, Tulane Innovation Institute director of marketing and communications. She believes that this growth will continue after she has left.
“Everyone cares deeply about The Hullabaloo and wants to see the organization grow and expand, and I have no doubt we are leaving it in good hands,” she said.
What’s next: O’Connor is moving to Boston to start work in August.

Lindsay Ruhl

Ruhl says she always planned to join The Hullabaloo, even writing about it in her Tulane admissions essay. Since then, she has written more than 100 articles, including eight front-page features and five of the most-read stories of all time on the website.
“The Hullabaloo has also given me a wonderful group of close friends, all of whom are so hard-working and passionate,” Ruhl said. “Some of my best college memories will be the long, late nights in The Hullabaloo office working on our print edition while eating pizza and gossiping about the latest news.”
A defining moment of Ruhl’s time at The Hullabaloo was her coverage of on-campus protests and encampments related to the Israel-Hamas war, which drew national attention. She has written 10 in-depth articles on the demonstrations.
“Through this reporting, I launched The Hullabaloo’s first podcast series, where I covered the October 2023 protest and then continued to cover protests, capturing students’ raw emotions via audio,” she said.
That reporting earned Ruhl national accolades, including her coverage being picked up by NPR and NBC Nightly News, as well as an invitation to present at the College Media Association’s Winter Conference in February 2023.
This year, Ruhl has focused on developing an analytics and strategy program for The Hullabaloo clicks, views and reads.
“I have developed numerous analytics reports that streamline and track our views on the website and Instagram,” she said. “Various Excel formulas and Pivot tables have given some really interesting insights that we’ve strategically implemented into our writing and publishing.”
What’s next: Ruhl will be moving back to Atlanta and starting work as a merchandise analyst for The Home Depot.

“[I was] able to help promote Arcade from being a section that struggled to get articles published to one of the most prolific sections in The Hullabaloo,” she said. “As someone passionate about arts and culture, I think it’s important to give people a place to explore that.”
What’s next: Duhon will be working in galleries and museums until going to graduate school.

“Being part of The Hullabaloo has shaped me in more ways than I expected,” Yadav said. “It connected me with an incredible community of writers and editors who pushed me to think more critically and tell stories with intention. Professionally, it gave me a real window into the world of journalism – learning how to craft a narrative, meet deadlines, and write for an audience.”
Yadav notes that her time at The Hullabaloo taught her that meaningful communication is at the core of everything — a lesson she learned firsthand while reporting on student disengagement from food service workers in the Tulane community.
“A moment that really stuck with me was receiving an email from a dean expressing appreciation for the article,” she said. “It was the first time I felt like my writing had created a real impact and that it had actually moved people and sparked a real conversation on campus.”
What’s next: Yadav will be working in tech marketing, combining her computer science degree with the storytelling skills she has gained at The Hullabaloo. Long term, she plans to pursue an MBA and transition into tech strategy consulting.

Although Bryce has written for all sections of The Hullabaloo, he discovered a passion for covering local politics. He is especially proud of his reporting on the Ten Commandments law, which he followed from its inception through ongoing court battles.
What’s next: Oufnac will be attending law school at either Tulane or Loyola University New Orleans with hopes of becoming a trial attorney or legislative advocate.

One of the highlights of her time at The Hullabaloo was interviewing Mollye Demosthenidy after she was named dean of Newcomb-Tulane College in 2023.
“Not many students get to sit down with the dean of their college, and I still remember how professional it felt to conduct that interview with her and how excited I was to see it published,” she said.
