At 1:02 p.m on Monday, the New Orleans Fire Department first received a call reporting that an arcing power line had fallen onto a parked vehicle, setting it on fire, in the 7300 block of Willow Street.

No injuries were sustained during the incident.

Upon arriving at the Uptown location, units were prevented from immediately dousing the flames.

“[Truck] 25 arrived on the scene and all they could do was protect the exposures because the wires were still live.” Kenny Kirsch, district chief of the NOFD, said. “Once we got a confirmation from Entergy that the power was cut, we extinguished the fire.”

Lusher Charter Elementary School, located across the street from the scene, was not in session due to the Labor Day holiday.

The owner of the affected car has not yet been identified
