Attempted carjacking occurs near public health building downtown

A man in his twenties approached a person from behind and demanded they give him their keys while they were trying to get into their car around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 7 on the 100 block of South Robertson Street. The victim began to fight back and was shocked with a stun gun several times, according to reports from Tulane University Police Department.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black hoodie and jeans. He was last seen fleeing the scene towards Canal Street. 

The crime happened two blocks away from the Tidewater Building of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine on Canal Street. A crime alert was sent out to the Tulane community at 12:17 a.m. on Friday. TUPD is investigating.
