Two people are critically wounded, and a suspect is dead after a shooting in the 1400 block of Tulane Avenue, near Tulane University’s Health Sciences Center, Thursday afternoon.

A Tulane University Police Department officer heard gunshots outside the Hutchinson Memorial Building and went to the scene. The officer found a perpetrator who shot two individuals, including a Tulane employee, according to a text from the Tulane Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, allegedly pushed a woman into some bushes before shooting her, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said in a media briefing. The suspect then crossed the street and shot a Tulane maintenance worker before being shot by a TUPD officer.

The victims were treated at the Tulane University Medical Center, which neighbors the scene, before being transported to University Medical Center for further care.
