After finishing 32-26 overall and coming in third place in the American Athletic Conference, the Tulane Green Wave baseball team is seeking to improve as it begins its 2020 campaign. 

The Green Wave lost seven players to the MLB draft and free agency including star third baseman Kody Hoese who was drafted 25th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

While the team is losing quite a bit of talent, Head Coach Travis Jewett, entering his fourth year as head coach, is confident in his returning players. “Let me stand here in front of you and tell you that the cupboard is certainly not bare,” Jewett said. “We returned 363 hits, that’s a lot. 76 doubles, 15 triples, 42 homers, 238 RBI and a .309 batting average.”

Tulane’s roster will see 16 new faces including two catchers, one infielder, five right-handed pitchers and two left-handed pitchers. The large group of incoming signees includes ten junior college transfers and six high school recruits.

These new roster additions will join forces with returning standouts including Jonathon Artigues, Grant Mathews and Hudson Haskin as the Green Wave begins its journey to Omaha. 

The Green Wave’s season will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 with a three-game series against Florida Gulf Coast University followed by a road match against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Feb. 19. The team will then embark on a trip to Southern California to face Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series that begins on Feb. 21.

On Mar. 24, the Green Wave will travel to Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge to face in-state powerhouse LSU and will begin American Athletic Conference play the same week with a three-game series against Wichita State beginning on Mar. 27 followed by another matchup against Louisiana-Lafayette on Apr. 1. 

The Green Wave is looking to continue play in the NCAA Tournament after participating in the American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship from May 19-24.
